Is Disney Pushing Social Agendas?

I went to see Disney’s latest venture in movies, and it has the strongest messages that I can remember from the company.  From the instant the movie starts, you are confronted with a barrage of social woes and indifference covering the spectrum from societial obesity to our disposable lifestyle and inattentiveness to our surroundings.  for example-  700 years after we leave, and the planet has still not recovered?!?  I think that this stretches credibility too far, but kids won’t notice that glaring error.  I recognize that the human race has a lot to do to clean up the mess that we have made, and the positive that I hope will come out of this veture from the children’s media empire is more awareness of our impact…
I am just disappointed that I went to see what I anticipated to be an enjoyable movie experience and walked away feeling guilty for having super-size drink and popcorn containers in our hands as we left!!
All things considered, it was a good movie for my kids, they left saying his (WALL-E) name and trying to copy his enunciation of it- very cute coming from a 4 year old!!!

  1. I kind of felt the same way about the movie – I went there to spend a happy afternoon with my kids. At the same time, we need these messages to be sent and I am happy it is coming from Pixar. Makes co-producer/owner Disney look pretty bad for all the consumerism and intricate, kid-oriented, cross-marketing it does between entertainment and “stuff.” I was enraged to be given 4 trashy plastic Wall-E watches for my kids and their friends at the cinema. How dare they show a movie with these themes and then give out junk at the same time! That has to be the marketing genius and wickedness of Disney.
